Why be in Business for Yourself?

Entrepreneurs know that there is only one predictable way to become wealthy; you need to take control of your destiny and decide what your rewards are going to be.  Some are lucky enough to be born rich, to marry rich, inherit rich or get rich when they hit the lottery; however, none of these paths to riches is predictable.

Being in business for yourself offers many rewards, including financial security, being paid for doing what you enjoy and getting exactly what you deserve.  Yes, business owners do get what they deserve.  If they go into the venture of business ownership with a positive attitude, good things generally follow; if they have a bad attitude, they will suffer some consequences.

Starting and growing a business is a challenge; don’t let anyone tell you it’s easy, because it’s not.  Business ownership may sound right for you; however, are you right for business ownership?  Ask yourself these questions and answer them honestly:

  • Are you ready for business?
  • Are you prepared to face risks?
  • Are you the right kind of person?
  • Do you possess the required attributes?
  • Can you stay focused on your objective as you make critical decisions?
  • Can you get past the word “no”?
  • Are you self-confident, even when others express a lack of faith in you?

Considering how you answered the above questions, are you ready to be the master of your own ship and control your destiny?  Are you right for business ownership?

Not everyone is right for business ownership.  It’s OK to be thankful if you’re fortunate enough to have a good job with benefits.  You have this position because you possess the skills and knowledge required for this position.  You are well-suited to this type of environment.

If you feel that you are not well-suited to working for others; if you find that you make a terrible employee because you cannot stand to have someone tell you what to do, if you are self-confident, focused on your goals and persistent in your work to achieve success, then consider going into business for yourself.
